ABOUT US
Wavelength is a boutique strategic communications firm making waves to advance social justice and civil rights. We specialize in telling compelling stories, crafting effective messaging, and helping campaigns and organizations expand their reach.

Our Approach
At Wavelength, we work with our clients to tell compelling stories, share often overlooked truths, and ensure that the voices of people most impacted by an issue are centered in campaigns and media coverage. We believe in a people and community-centered approach to communications work, which is grounded in our conviction that everyone should have the freedom to live full lives with their family and community.
We’re small, we’re nimble, and we’re all in. We believe communications should be energizing and creative, and we bring that approach to every aspect of our work.
We maintain a high level of discretion when it comes to our client work. If you'd like to learn more about our portfolio and experience, please send us a message.

Hayley (Burgess) Gammill
she/her
Founder + Director
Los Angeles, CA
For the past decade, Hayley has dedicated her career to media, messaging, and narrative change to advance civil rights and social justice, with a clear focus on immigrants’ rights. She has worked both in-house and as a freelance consultant, with projects ranging from federal Supreme Court litigation to organizer-led campaigns at the state and local level in places like California, Tennessee, New York, and Wisconsin. While her communications skills run the gamut, her fundamental expertise is in media relations. She has placed impactful stories in a range of national and local outlets, including the New York Times, Associated Press, TIME, NPR and multiple local affiliates, the Los Angeles Times, The Hill, Teen Vogue, NBC, ABC, CBS, Univision, Telemundo, The Intercept, Talking Points Memo, CalMatters, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The Sacramento Bee. In addition to her advocacy work, Hayley is an adjunct professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, where she has taught both undergraduate and graduate-level public relations courses. Hayley does lots of other things too (with varying degrees of expertise) – she reads, she does pottery, and she's learning metal smithing. She also spends a lot of time with her cat Lola and her dog Emmylou (if you’re sensing music references you’re on the right track).

Sarah Kahn
she/her
Communications Specialist
Boston, MA
Sarah Kahn is an early career professional passionate about narrative change and social justice. Her work explores how systems of power disenfranchise marginalized communities—and how strategic storytelling can be a tool for justice, repair, and transformation. With a background in public affairs, student organizing, and graduate research, she brings a multidisciplinary lens to communications—bridging policy, advocacy, and narrative to shift public understanding and build toward a more just future. Prior to working with Wavelength, Sarah held communications internships and research positions at Just Futures Law, ACLU, KCRW, and the Center for Immigration Law & Policy (CILP) at the UCLA School of Law. Outside of work, Sarah loves reading about cultural anthropology, starting up a new crafting hobby every 4-6 weeks, and community organizing.
A FEW MORE THINGS TO KNOW

We support real writers, artists, designers, and storytellers. Everything is done by people - no ChatGPT, even for the small stuff.

The individuals directly impacted by the issues we are working on are at the heart of every decision we make.

We know the issues before us are often heavy, but it’s important to us to maintain a healthy, collaborative, supportive, and creative environment.

We're professional, but we're not corporate. We value creativity, flexibility, out-of-the-box thinking, and maintaining an open mind.

Communications is ever-evolving and so are we. We're energized by the endless opportunities to learn and grow in our practice.

We take pride in the work we do, but we check our egos at the door. Our work is about thoughtful partnership and building toward meaningful change.

SPECIAL SHOUT-OUTS
